Family Therapy In South Carolina
Addiction is a family disease, which is driven by secrecy and humiliation. Family therapy can help clients to learn the root cause of their addiction. Relationship bonds formed with family members are some the most enjoyable relationships most will ever know. At times, they can also be the most problematic. Many clients in recovery have come to comprehend that the foundations of their addictions are entangled with their family relationships. Repeatedly, when a person has been combating addiction, connections to family and friends become suspended. Our Hilton Head therapists collaborate with the client and their family to heal old scars, let go of resentments, and establish an improved path ahead.
THE FAMILY’S ROLE IN THEIR LOVED-ONE’S TREATMENT
During each client’s addiction treatment stay, him / her will receive weekly family therapy sessions (telehealth available). At times, these meetings may involve multiple members of the family and will be centered on continued steadiness for the client when they discharge from BriteLife. The primary therapist will typically make suggestions for family members and their loved ones to ensure the best possible rehab outcome. Sessions can also be held with the family and the therapist without the loved one if we have their written consent.
Please note that clients can refuse family sessions and always have the right to revoke all releases of information which will prevent contact with family members. This is part of our HIPAA compliance as a healthcare provider.
Family Therapy Helps the whole family heal
Family members can share their feelings about the client’s addiction, as well as any linked behavioral problems. In this way, old behaviors are exposed, and new trust is afforded. Family therapy is a lot like group therapy. Sessions are conducted by a licensed psychotherapist, and all family members are encouraged to attend and take part in the solution. At this point, things are brought to the surface in a meaningful way so healing can become the emphasis.
